Brazil World Cup & Capoeira Trip 2014

Arrival June 2nd - Departure to be decided by each participant

Capoeira people,

We are holding a capoeira event a couple of weeks prior to the world cup, after that people will be free to enjoy the games and travel to the many great Game location in Brazil. The set day to pick people up at the São Paulo airport (Guarulhos - GRU) is Monday June 2nd (ONLY!).

One may purchase their air ticket on their own but having a travel agent is always helpful for they will clarify many "unknown" important stuff and perhaps get the best rates available. Our travel Agent name is Ligia from Santours and you can contact her by calling (USA) 510-652-8600 (x14) or 800/769-9669 or email her.

We will be holding a capoeira event in Brazil from June 2nd to the 8th. This event will include a local capoeira tour with an attempt to visit a few academies like mestres Suassuna, Lobão, Quebrinha, Zé Antonio and as many as the time and conditions alows us until we end up in the paradise town of Ubatuba where we will be training with some special guest mestres. Take a look at this place also known as the Brazilian Hawaii: Ubatuba - Brazil's Tropical Paradise. After wards we encourarge all capoeiristas to participate at Ginga Valey organized by Mestre Quebrinha's event in the town of Taubaté (very close to where we will be staying in Ubatuba). More details will be posted here later.

To watch any of the World Cup games will depend on acquiring your game tickets that are being sold on random rafle system stipulated by FIFA. Some of us are attemting to watch the opening of the world cup game in São Paulo and than return to Ubatuba to watch the other games at the hotel or other public places*. Any one interested in watching any games must purchase their own tickets at the FIFA's website so don't waste any time and go to the FIFA's website at: FIFA tickets for Brazil Wolrd Cup 2014.

The hotel cost in Ubatuba including all meals will be US$80 per day (per person) plus the capoeira event US$500. Roughly speaking one could spend around US$1300 to US$1700 if staying between 30 to 40 days with everything included minus airfare and ground transportation. See the link for the hotel in Ubatuba: Água Doce Praia Hotel in Ubatuba. DO NOT CONTACT THE HOTEL DIRECTLY (Hotel accomodation details and deals will not be giving aside from our group. More details will be sent after full registration is done). Thank you for your understanding.

Anyone can join us from any capoeira school as this is not a capoeira group trip but instead a capoeira retreat for all. I would still be important for you to communicate with your mestre about your intent to join us and any school visits suggestions in Brazil will be welcome.

If you are interest in going please fill out the registration form at this page and also email me, and I will give you more details as they unfold. If you are already determined to participate go ahead and make a US$500 deposit** to assure your space.
Take care and Axé!

Mestre Marcelo

IMPORTANT NOTES: It is important to remember that to go to Brazil you may need to get a visa (depending on your nationality) and the Brazilian consulate is alerting everyone that they antecipate being SUPER busy during the few months preceiding the world cup. For that they are already issuing visas to anyone as of July of this year (2013) and are highly recomending that people apply for their visas asap. The good news is that if you have already purchase a ticket for any of the World Cup Games the visa will be free and good for one month(you would have to provide receipt of the ticket purchase). The regular visa costs around $300 and it is good for 10 years. Click here for more info.

During the World Soccer Cup it is common that the cities set up giant screens all over for people to gather and watch the games in public places. The country will be fully charged with all kids of things including arts, live music, concerts of all kinds plus lots of parties everywhere. It is once in a life time thing that I don't want to miss it.

The deposit total will be refunded in full minus the PayPal sevice charge % plus a $25 processing fee in case you need to cancel your trip.
One doesn't need to be an expert in capoeira but be aware that the group of people going are most likely to be capoeira practitioners and thats what they will be wanting to do for a big part of their trip.  Other than that we will just do this: practice capoeira once or twice a day, go to the beaches, waterfalls, rapids, and perhaps visiting some islands and local exotic places as well.
